M.I.A. on Real Time with Bill Maher

In this interview, Bill Maher sits down with M.I.A. to discuss the end of the civil war in Sri Lanka. For those of us who aren't well informed about this crisis, their conversation serves as a brief introduction to some of the central issues. Unfortunately, the discussion doesn't go too far in-depth, since, as Bill rightly observes, the average American simply isn't well enough informed yet to fully comprehend the situation. Even so, this interview demonstrates why M.I.A. is such a powerful figure in music today. Having experienced war, discrimination and government oppression firsthand, she offers valuable insight into the type of global crises which are often ignored by the greater American public.
