We Win

We all knew it was gonna be like this

we knew it could be like this
so many times we're posted like why isn't shit more crackin round here
don't we have all the necessary components?

Yankcity defined: When the necessary and pertinent elements of the universe align to make a moment to remember. The energy created then permeates all involved. And shit is crackin. It's when you forget about what you have to do tomorrow or the next day because right now is all the matters. Yankcity is when you know you're not losing because the mouthpiece is too on point. Yankcity is when no words are necessary. Only moves.

Mexican Billionaire "bails out" New York Times

(NY Times) What Does Carlos Slim Want With the NY Times? Critics Question What's Behind Mexican Billionaire's $250M Loan: He's the second-richest man in the world, after Warren Buffett -- worth $60 billion by Forbes' measure -- a man who parlayed Mexico's one-time state-owned telephone monopoly into a business empire so dominant that it accounts for a third of the value of the leading Mexican stock market, according to The Wall Street Journal. So, what does Carlos Slim want with The New York Times?

Mr. Slim threw the New York Times Co. a lifeline last week, lending it $250 million to refinance $400 million in debt coming due in May. It was the second major cash infusion in the Times in five months; in September Mr. Slim took a 6.9% stake in the company, an investment that has lost more than half its value since then.

An extremely poignant work, the project was exhibited in conjunction with the Nobel Peace Center in June 2008. If nothing else, these photographs serve to highlight the contrasting lifestyles that humans are living today. A truly amazing site that should be viewed by all.

The Cool Kids "Pennies"

The Cool Kids have been around for a minute now and although they've created a good amount of buzz they have yet to come with that one commercial friendly song that you hear on repeat on the radio. (Fuck the radio by the way). Despite their lack of radio love, The Cool Kids remain a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stale genre of hip hop, even though this refreshment is easier on the eyes than the ears. In short, the concept and aesthetic of the Cool Kids makes them much more appealing than their actual music. To become a success this must change, although you never really know what might catch on. Regardless, Pennies is the duos latest work, and in some respects their most creative. What may be the coolest thing about the Cool Kids is their ability and willingness to shun the formal mold of hip hop production, saying, ''Fuck You," to the status quo of hip hop videos consisting of cars and girls and cars and more girls. While the lyrics aren't too memorable, you'll forsure remember the Alligator whip.

Coach fired for not apologizing for 100-0 win

This is pretty ridiculous.
Wish someone videotaped the game.

The Covenant School fired its girls basketball coach Sunday, the same day he posted a message on a youth basketball Web site saying he disagreed with school officials who had publicly apologized for the team's 100-0 victory over Dallas Academy.

In reporting the firing, Kyle Queal, Covenant's head of school, emphasized that former coach Micah Grimes "now only represents himself" when discussing the game, which has become a national talking point. Queal said he could not say whether the firing was a direct result of the posting and declined to answer any questions.

In a statement posted Sunday on www.flightbasketball.com, Grimes offered his first public comment since the story was first reported. "I respectfully disagree with the apology, especially the notion that the Covenant School girls basketball team should feel 'embarrassed' or 'ashamed,' " part of the post says. "We played the game as it was meant to be played and would not intentionally run up the score on any opponent. Although a wide-margin victory is never evidence of compassion, my girls played with honor and integrity and showed respect to Dallas Academy."

Untitled

on life and her interests: I was born and raised in San Francisco and am currently going to school in Los Angeles. I am a huge fan of learning. I love to learn. That's one of reasons why I am always enjoyed school because there are endless opportunities to learn new things. I am currently learning how to cook different kinds of food, like Moroccan food and Indian food. Cooking is very enjoyable because you get something good at the end of day and nothing makes me happier than a good meal.

on her work Untitled:
Untitled" was created through the exploration of acrylic paint. I am interested in the painting without using a paint brush. What is painting without the action of painting? Line and layers are necessary in "Untitled" because they create illusion of space and structure. The lines are organic and are made with a touch of randomness.

"Feel Me" A Piece By Damien McDuffie

"You'd of thought they killed cornbread"
-Lil Wayne

"A riot is the language of the unheard."
-MLK

Damn! They shot him with his face down on the ground. I know Oscar Grant was shot by one BART police officer at a station in Oakland, CA while he was lying face down. I say "they" because its important to recognize that it's a systemic problem that has always existed in Oakland. The first defense the BART council and the police were saying is that the officer thought he was reaching for a tazer and did not mean to shoot the 22 year father. Let's assume that he did mean to murder this young man and was indeed looking for his tazer. But the real question is did he need to taze Grant in the first place?

This is a problem of excessive force that many police in Oakland utilize on a regular basis. This time two critically important things occurred to finally make people in Oakland pay attention and want to do something about it: it caused the death of a young man and it was captured on tape. That was a great motivating factor in why community members demanded justice in a city that often sees very little of it in action. The people see that organizing is the way to get things done and sometimes it takes a riot or two. But it takes sustained commitment to fighting for social justice and that is the only way that Oakland will become a better place to live for people.

A Moment In History

I don't have anything profound to say about what happened today.
It's hard for me to comprehend what I saw.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS
But I know things are changing.
They're changing all around us.
I think one of the main shifts that has come about from these moments
lies in our collective consciousness as a nation and as individuals to value
the realities before our eyes, rather than the feigned knowledge we hear and read about.
Discord's are forming between our realities and our perceptions.
"Well my parents told me about people like this, but I'm friends with the same muthrfuckin people
they were tellin me NOT to kick it with.."
It's such an exciting time.
Aren't you happy to be alive?

Meet Terry Richardson

According to fellow photographer Sam Abell, "photography is at its pinnacle when it 1. informs and 2. moves the viewer." Pictures able to do both can then transcend the context in which they were taken, and become eternal. Terry Richardson has the ability to create such images. His photography is often times simple, yet austoundingly complex, mixing shock with curiosity to move his viewer. The inappropriateness of his work is overshadowed by the realities they portray, by illuminating images of society that we all do not choose to volunteeringly see. Sometimes stumbling upon a Terry Richardson photo is like walking in on your parents going at it. You wont always be glad you saw it, but you will be more informed. When other critics refer to Richardson they speak in regards to his relevency to his generation. Richardson has done campaigns for GQ & Vogue, while also photographing such contemporary figures as Daniel Day Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio and Pharrell Williams. He also has published a selection of books ranging from his 1998 work Hysteric Glamour to his most recent project, Terryworld 25th Anniversary Edition. Simply put, Terry Richardson is doin it.

Lil' Wayne GQ Interview

Photography by Terry Richardson

...on what Planet Weezy would be like:
First of all, I already know, men would be able to marry however many women they want. School would not be optional. It would be mandatory. Because I do not like unintelligent people; it’s a pet peeve. If you dumb, you not around me, so that says a lot about the people you see around me, because I hate dumb people. Other than that, did I mention the men would be able to marry, ain’t no limit on that. And you don’t have to do no ceremony to get married. You’d have to do something, but not the proper ceremony we go through today. I’ll think of some cool shit you’ll have to do. I do some realistic shit, so that night before you get married, you got that bachelor party, she got that bachelorette party, and that morning—don’t you feel different than next morning? Like, fuck, I don’t really know if I want to get married, man. Like, if you can go through it and make it to some certain spot the church or whatever that next day, you married. Because something made you go through it. ...

...on people leaking his music:
I wrote this song for Michael Phelps, when we did SNL together. Gave him a whole iPod with unreleased music. He was a good friend. Never leaked it. I never got an all hip-hop blast: Lil Wayne has a new song. He never put it out. But this I want you to put in there. Shit was lyrical. I went in there and just sung it. To know that I don’t write. This sound like someone sat and wrote it down in his tablet for days.

...on his daily schedule
: A typical day for me? (To his road manager) Can I have a lighter? (Lights a blunt.) I get up, and if I’m not on the road or doing something like a photo shoot, I’m in the studio. I get up and eat breakfast, I have a great chef. The homies usually come over. We eat breakfast and shit. My chef makes the same thing every day, just the full breakfast, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, sometimes waffles, fruit. Make sure that there’s everything you’re supposed to get.

...on how much money he has:
I just checked my bank account it said I have like $100 left. I just need a dollar to pay a toll, so that’s ninety-nine. But I’m a put that dollar back.

What The Fuck is Socialism Anyway?

Socialism means a global system of social organization based on:

Common Ownership: All the productive wealth of the world will belong to all the people of the world. No more transnational corporations or small businesses and therefore nobody will own the world. It will be possessed by all of its inhabitants.

Democratic Control By All: Who will run socialist society? We all will. There will be no more government and governed. People will make decisions freely in their communities, in regions and globally. With the existing means of information technology and mass communication this is all possible.

Production For Use: Instead of producing goods and services for sale and profit, the sole reason for production will be to satisfy needs and desires.

Free Access: A society in which everyone owns everything, decides everything and only produces anything because it is useful will be one in which all will have free access to what is produced. Money will cease to have any function. People will not work for wages or salaries, but to give what they can and take what they need.

Internet Video > Television

One way to think about online video is to consider how big a chunk it takes out of our daily lives. The amount of time U.S. Internet users spend watching video is up an impressive 40 percent year over year. Watchers tuned in for 273.1 minutes of online video in the month of November 2008, up from 195 minutes in November 2007, according to comScore.

comscorenovember08

That’s not the only measure that went up. The number of videos viewed increased 34 percent, to 12.7 billion videos, up from 9.5 billion last November. But the number of video viewers is not growing quite as fast; it was up 6 percent, to 146 million from 138 million. Still, that’s stayed fairly constant since last year at about three-quarters of total U.S. Internet users (which is not in itself a fast-growing category).

In terms of where we’re watching, YouTube is clearly at the top of the heap — accounting for 98 percent of Google’s 40.3 percent market share — but other players have shifted on and off the top 10. There’s Hulu, of course; it’s at No. 6. Turner Network also made its way onto the list, while Break and ABC.com dropped off.
