If you take Detox out of the conversation, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 has to be the most highly anticipiated and postponed album ever. For the last four years or so, rumors have accumulated surrounding an album meant to match it's undeniably classic counterpart. With the release supposedly around the corner, Rae's finally hit us with the first single, a Wu family cut that sounds like a return to their mid-90's heyday. Meth steals the show, but all four dudes go in over a beat lifted from the J Dilla archives, complete with kung-fu samples a la 36 Chambers. We all know expectations can flop a project, but with more material like this, I think we can expect OB4CL2 to be on point.

El Michels Affair - "The 38th Chamber"
It's pretty much common knowledge that Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothin' to fuck with. Less well known is El Michels Affair, whose recent project, Enter the 37th Chamber blends their gritty soul sound with the Wu classics we know and love. The band prides itself on their aesthetic, a sound which has been dubbed "cinematic soul" by various critics. In describing their music, the band says they look to "blend the cinematic quality of soundtrack records with the recording aesthetic of early reggae, and the rawness of 60's rock". Featured in the video are the band's covers of "C.R.E.A.M." and "Shimmy Shimmy Ya", forming the perfect backdrop for some old school samurai shit to do gown.
