Mr. Hudson is intriguing. He has entered the game with a very unique angle, initially distinguishing himself with his looks and associations. on Supernova Hudson and Ye highlight the precautions of love and relationships, singing, "I feel like taking off/ Let me be your supernova tonight/ Before you make the biggest mistake of your life/ Just give me the chance to get it right." It will be interesting to see what his next single will be and how it fits into the rest of the album. Only time will tell. Kanye believes in him, which in today's realm is all you really need. Clean visuals make Hudson and Kanyes performance shots more compelling. His debut album, entitled "Straight No Chaser," drops October 5th.

Ian Ference's Abandoned Architecture

Photographer Ian Ference has a thing for abandoned buildings. His blog, The Kingston Lounge displays his impressive collection of work, documenting places that have been forgotten for years or even decades. The concept may not be a completely new one, but it relates an important truth about art. With these collections, Ference is able to find beauty in objects or settings that are often thought of as ugly and unwanted. And in a time where we find ourselves obsessed by the latest technology and shiny new possessions, his work stands as an interesting contrast, giving us a look at some of what we've left and neglected along the way. Only a true artist can transform the meaning of a scene simply by portraying it in the right light. Thank Samra for putting me up on this one.

VIBE Magazine Folds: What Does This Mean For New Media?

Times are changing. After 16 years in print, VIBE Magazine, the biggest urban music magazine has ceased publication. Founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones, the magazine covered the lifestyle and culture of hip hop and r&b.

This year through March, VIBE's ad pages fell 41.7 percent to 107, per the Media Week Monitor. Circ has been hard-hit, too; total paid and verified was down 8.6 percent for the second half of 2008, blunted in part by a 280 percent increase in verified copies. In the same period, paid subs fell 19.6 percent while single-copy sales fell 10.8 percent. (Media Week)

With advertisers looking elsewhere to present their messages, VIBE had to make cut backs to their work force. On March 1st staffers were asked to work four days per week, and have their salaries slashed 10 to 15 percent, according to a Vibe spokesperson.

What does this transformation mean for the content that still has to be covered? What will emerge as the online entity of VIBE Magazine? It seems as though RealTalkNY and World Star Hip Hop have effectively capitalized on the changing media forms, by covering news faster, while presenting content in various forms. Does this mean that every niche topic created within traditional media must now enter the online arena. It seems so. It appears as though the longstanding phrase, "change before you have to," rings true once again.

On Sunday night, the BET Awards aired, complete with performances from Beyonce, Hov, Drake & Wayne, among many others. Somehow, the show still managed to be pretty lackluster. What troubled me most though was the list of nominees under the category for best group. The Roots and N.E.R.D. is all gravy, but then I scroll down and see Day 26 and the GS Boyz. To make matters worse, Day 26 actually won the award. No hate, but fuck. To know that quality hip-hop groups like Pac Div, The Cool Kids or Zion I are out there grinding every day just to get their songs in rotation, while the "Stanky Legg" dudes are up for awards is just a little discouraging. But it's cool. As far as I'm concerned, Pac Div is killing the game, and they're back with a new video for "The Mayor". Fly as a space shuttle. Cool as a rain puddle. Don't sleep.

This will be a bittersweet release for those who already have a pair of Infrared VI's. For those that never had a chance, they get one more. This release is bittersweet because whenever a shoe is re-released its value decreases as there are more available to the public, effectively weakening the value for those that have already copped the kicks years ago. Regardless, these kicks are staples of the Air Jordan brand and might just be the first coppable J's since the Spiz'ikes. Even more notable because MJ won his first championship in these in '91. $150 price tag is still doin a bit much. Bowties.

We all know Jay likes the iconic imagery. Throw in some noteworthy cameos and you've got a Jay video. D.O.A. doesn't stray from the mold. I respect the message. A call to bring originality and innovation back to the game. At 39 and relevant, Jay can be described as the Godfather of hip hop, but does he have enough clout to curtail the prevalence of auto-tune within the industry? Time will tell. Lion Facts: The cave lion, also known as the European or Eurasian cave lion, is an extinct subspecies of lion known from fossils and a wide variety of prehistoric art. This subspecies was one of the largest lions. An adult male, which was found in 1985 near Siegsdorf (Germany), had a shoulder height of around 1.2 m and a length of 2.1 m without a tail, which is about the same size as a very big modern lion. This male was even exceeded by other specimens of this subspecies. Therefore this cat may have been around 5-10% bigger than modern lions. It apparently went extinct about 10,000 years ago, during the Würm glaciation, though there are some indications it may have existed as recently as 2,000 years ago, in the Balkans.

Judging from the looks of things, this process might have worsened since this article was written. In a 2007 Fast Company article entitled, The Wal-Mart You Don't Know, Charles Fishman highlights the problematic consequences of Wal-Marts quest for inexpensive goods, by presenting the high prices that come with their everyday "low costs."

Wal-Mart is not just the world's largest retailer. It's the world's largest company--bigger than ExxonMobil, General Motors, and General Electric. The scale can be hard to absorb. Wal-Mart sold $244.5 billion worth of goods last year. Wal-Mart no longer has any real rivals. It does more business than Target, Sears, Kmart, J.C. Penney, Safeway, and Kroger combined.

Wal-Mart wields its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. At Wal-Mart, that goal is never reached. The retailer has a clear policy for suppliers: On basic products that don't change, the price Wal-Mart will pay, and will charge shoppers, must drop year after year.

One way to think of Wal-Mart is as a vast pipeline that gives non-U.S. companies direct access to the American market. "One of the things that limits or slows the growth of imports is the cost of establishing connections and networks," says Paul Krugman, the Princeton University economist. "Wal-Mart is so big and so centralized that it can all at once hook Chinese and other suppliers into its digital system. So--wham!--you have a large switch to overseas sourcing in a period quicker than under the old rules of retailing."

"People ask, 'How can it be bad for things to come into the U.S. cheaply? How can it be bad to have a bargain at Wal-Mart?' Sure, it's held inflation down, and it's great to have bargains," says Dobbins. "But you can't buy anything if you're not employed. We are shopping ourselves out of jobs."

Tonight we celebrate. Sounds strange, I know, but bear with me. Tonight we celebrate the life and the work of perhaps the greatest entertainer of our era. A man who irreparably changed the face of popular music and entertainment. Forget the controversy. Forget the complex and troubling questions of race and gender. Tonight, we remember the songs that made us move and the voice that made them come alive. We remember an icon, a figure so ingrained in our culture that many in the generations above us considered him something like a family member.

I remember being eight years old and rockin to a cassette tape of Thriller every damn day. I let my tape rock 'til the tape popped. Literally. Michael's music is special because it is truly transcendent. The feeling it contains is powerful enough to reach through the speakers and touch people of all ages and of any color. And though nothing I could say could truly do the man justice, I feel this song speaks volumes. UK Student Creates Invisible Car

Let's take a moment to really appreciate this work. Like, who would've thought to do this shit? Sara Watson did. A 22 year old student at the University of Central Lancashire, Sara spray painted this hoopty Skoda Fabia to create this piece. Her work serves to give the illusion that the car is actually invisible. In regards to her work, Sara stated, "I was experimenting with the whole concept of illusion but needed something a bit more physical to make a real impact." The piece could be seen as an homage to street artist Julian Beever who also toys with perspective to create memorable illusions.

Shaquille O' Neal is getting ready to be a part of his 5th NBA team. The ramifications of this trade are kinda crucial as it seems like the Cavs are betting their chips on next season to at least get out of the east. If not, they'll have an older Shaq without the leverage to pull a valuable trade later on. Meanwhile it seems like the Suns were just trying to get rid of some heavy luggage as they receive Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace in return. The key to trades in the NBA is to change before you have to. We'll see if these moves were correct come February.

After grinding for the last few years in the studio, he's back with his sophomore effort, P.O.L.O. (Players Only Live Once), and a new slap courtesy of Jim Jonsin (of "Lollipop" and "Whatever You Like" fame). Off top, folks know Dro is entertaining and fun to listen to, but as a spitter he's pretty damn underrated. This one is dedicated to the haters. Dro goes in. Also referred to as the powder puff, or globe lily, the ball lily is native to Africa and grows best in tropical environments. The blooms are big with red pink spikes and yellow specks at the ends, that while beautiful only last for about a week. Flowers are fresh because their shape and colors are so varying yet they all come from a tiny nondescript seed, and then grow into something magnificent. A flower is beauty in its most natural form.

With an accompanying video, and a pleasant sound, I would categorize this song as sunny day music.

Not new but necessary. Victoria Hesketh, known to the world as Little Boots covered Cudi's Day N Nite in early March. Little Boots' rendition is undeniably fantastic and borderline beautiful. But her cover also relates an exciting development that may be emerging in contemporary music. For Little Boots to cover Kid Cudi's work is not only an incredibly authentic marketing tactic, but it also promotes true artistry at its core. Piggy backing off the creativity of one, to stimulate the creativity of another. By covering various genres of music, musicians have the ability to support each other while also creating their own rendition of dope songs, ultimately relating their music to a wider demographic. Lupe Fiasco - "Shining Down" (Live)

A lot has been made of "Shining Down", the first leak off of Lupe's Lasers album. The track, featuring Matthew Santos, was leaked throughout the blogosphere and Lupe got pretty pissed, so the download links got taken down (get at me on the low if you really need the song). Yesterday, he performed the song for the first time live, and absolutely killed it. What I like about this video, aside from just the song being dope, is the enthusiasm you can see in Lupe's performance. You can tell he's juiced off the music he's making and the response he's getting from the fans. This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you break a new song to the public.

Maybe it sounds cliche, like something your folks might say, but damn. Nobody makes songs like this anymore. I mean yeah, we have our Amy Winehouses and John Legends doing their thing on the soul tip, but there's nothing quite like the feeling you get listening to some classic Southern soul. Otis of course, was the legendary voice at the forefront of Stax Records whose life was tragically cut short in a plane crash in December of 1967. Still, in the six short years following the release of his first single, Otis Redding cemented his status as one of the most influential singers in popular music, leaving us with classics such as "These Arms of Mine", "Respect" and of course "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay". "That's How Strong My Love Is" was a hit for labelmate O.V. Wright before being covered by the King of Soul himself in 1965.

Kevin Van Aelst is a pretty incredible artist. His pieces consist of everyday objects, rearranged and decorated in creative and intricate ways, often on a tiny scale, making the precision of the work all the more impressive. Van Aelst himself frames his work as examining "the distance between the 'big picture' and the 'little things' in life- the banalities of our daily lives, and the sublime notions of identity and existence". Often times, one of the primary goals of a music video is to breathe new life into a song by depicting it visually. I think music videos are at their best when the video makes you like the song more. I'm not sure if I feel this way after this one. Could they have gotten a bit more creative with it instead of a series of performance shots in a stairwell? I think so. Nice colors though. It's cool to see Kanye and the Clipse together. Kanye is doing a great job of staying relevant through his features recently, I applaud him for that. But I still wonder, will the Clipse ever make a better video than this?

This is great for a lot of reasons. It's fun to see a group of NBA cats off the court like this. It's funny though, because they threw together a hella random group of players. No Lamar, no Bynum. Yes Mbenga, Yes Adam Morrison. Kobe's too icy but he's not that funny. 1:30 is where shit becomes jokes. I feel lightweight bad for Mbenga, bruh just does not know what's going on. 2:02 is a classic one liner from JK. Dom would say, "What's good with DFishes fit?" And we would laugh. Adam Morrison is the least comfortable person on camera since Joaquin Phoenix.

It's hella funny because they have way too many people on there to do an interview. They were bound to have a few fools looking stupid on camera with that many people on there. You could've predicted Kobe would be talking the most. But Josh Powell and Adam Morisson don't say shit. Shannon Brown is hella clean. 7:53, Mbenga's still dumb ass lost. Hilarious but I feel for dude. Deep down Mbenga fucks with Kobe less after this interview. 9:05 he's actually mad. Adam Morrison kills it without saying hardly anything. Comedy all around.

Black Moth Super Rainbow - "Born on a Day the Sun Didn't Rise"

For lack of better words, this is drug music. Black Moth Super Rainbow has been described as psychedelic, electronica, and pop, but in my experience, they make some really cool shit to listen to when you're blown. Characterized by the use of vocoder and other electronic instruments, their sound is one of the most original out there. "Born on a Day" is the single from Eating Us, the band's latest LP, which was released in a limited-edition "hairy" version complete with synthetic hair on the inner sleeve. Unfortunately, the hairy joints sold out pretty quick, but the album is still available here and in stores.

British artist Banksy goes for a few reasons. For one, he's one of the most prolific and provocative graffiti artists ever to do it. Perhaps even doper than his work is the fact that he's managed to stay anonymous throughout his career. Now, Banksy has pulled off his most impressive work yet. After years of being criticized by government officials as mere vandalism, Banksy has taken over the entire Bristol Museum, bringing to life 100 original pieces, all without unveiling his identity. As usual, the pieces feature political themes, provoking controversy with a touch of humor. If you should find yourself in Bristol anytime from June 13 to August 31, check out the exhibition for free 99.

Ayah is a Toronto based singer who has recently garnered attention after dropping her "Problem Woman" mixtape last year. She is currently working on her new album entitled, 4:15 which refers to her time of optimal creativity and innovation. In her own words, "Might Not Be" is all about being yourself, "It's about liking who you are and knowing your standards," states Ayah. With a dope message, and soulful lyrics, we may be hearing the name Ayah much more in the future.

It's always amusing to observe people who are great at what they do. These soccer highlights are no different. In short, a settled mix of some of the best soccer players in the world serving everyone else. The ball control is ridiculous and is something to be marvelled at. 1:44 kills it. This is one of the inaugurals for the football, so think of this as merely an introduction. We're still swimming in the shallow end. But nonetheless, something for Ben, Snick and Pops to settle on.

Sure's classic 80's slow jam, recruiting T-Pain for this track off his The Art of Noise mixtape. Super settled. Slap this in the whip with somebody you wanna get to know better.

The Beauty of Creativity

Every creation comes from the mind. Thoughts compiled, and compelling enough to provoke action. That action leads to a creation. Sometimes what we create may be deemed wack by others, while other things may be heralded as masterpieces. Regardless, how others define our creativity, in the end, shouldn't really matter. It's the process that counts. Letting what's inside, come outside and play for a bit. Our collective creativity will not only inspire others but it will make things more fun and interesting. Our creativity allows others to imagine what is, and what can be. Kinda like this figure. I never would've known it existed, until I saw it, and now it exists. Now I wonder what else can be made. Creativity breeds more creativity, that's why it's so cool to do you.

City of Shadows By Alexey Titarenko

Alexey Titarenko's, "City of Shadows," is a photo exhibition using long exposure shots to capture the movements of crowds in St. Petersburg, Russia. Although all individuals, his shots give the illusion of one long flowing movement. Lightweight eerie, but incredible work nonetheless. A great example of how reality can be manipulated to portray another "reality."
